The original Constellations featured several elements that have become iconic within the collection. From the iconi ” Dog legs – Frog legs” lugs and pie-pan style dials to the dauphine hands and distinctive diamond-shaped hour markers, the Constellation possessed a truly unique appearance. Customers were enamored with its attractive aesthetics, leading to the Constellation outselling Rolex’s chronometer models in no time. Despite its immense popularity, Omega sought to modernize the design in the 1960s, enlisting the expertise of Gerald Genta.

This redesign, known as the C-case or C-type, drew inspiration from the futuristic design trends of the Space Age era. The new C-case design introduced significant changes compared to its predecessor. It featured integrated lugs, abandoned the pie-pan dial in favor of baton indices and stick hands, and even transitioned from a circular to a tonneau-shaped case. Although not officially confirmed, it is widely believed and acknowledged that Gerald Genta was the mastermind behind the design of the C-case.
